Princess-Cut Diamond Engagement Rings

A princess-cut diamond has a clean square outline and an exceptionally lively play of light. It is a modern choice for anyone seeking a striking yet timeless engagement ring.

Thanks to its square shape, it often offers a more favourable price per carat than a round brilliant and looks beautiful in both minimalist and more elaborate designs.

Character of the cut

Why princess

Princess is a square brilliant cut with a large number of facets that scatter light in many directions. The result is a modern, striking look and an intense sparkle approaching that of a round brilliant.

It suits anyone who likes contemporary design with clean lines. The square outline looks elegant in a solitaire as well as in more intricate designs and holds its proportions well even at larger carat weights.

Why princess

The 4Cs in practice

Sharp corners and their protection

With the princess cut, the sharp corners deserve the most attention. They are the most vulnerable part of the diamond and can chip with rough wear, so it is advisable to protect them with the setting, typically with V-prongs.

With colour, the tint tends to be a little more noticeable in the corners than in the centre, so a colour grade one step higher can come across as cleaner. With clarity, it pays to watch for inclusions near the corners and edges, where they are most visible. A GIA, IGI or HRD certificate from 0.30 ct gives you certainty about these parameters.

Setting and metal

Which setting suits the princess cut

The princess cut shows best in a setting that protects the corners while still giving the diamond room to shine. V-prongs, which embrace and reinforce the corners, prove their worth whether you choose a solitaire, halo or three-stone variant.

White metals such as white gold or platinum emphasise the cool sparkle and the clean lines of the square shape. Yellow or rose gold lends the ring a warmer, more romantic character. We will happily fine-tune the exact combination to your vision.
