Platinum Engagement Rings
Platinum is among the most durable and rarest precious metals. It is naturally white — it holds its white shade permanently and needs no rhodium plating. For an engagement ring worn every day, it is an exceptionally durable choice.
Its high purity (platinum 950) is also hypoallergenic and gentle on sensitive skin.

What to know about this selection
Why platinum for an engagement ring
Platinum is the rarest and densest of the commonly worked precious metals. For an engagement ring that is worn every day and for a whole lifetime, it offers what matters most: a permanently white shade that it holds on its own, without a rhodium layer that would have to be renewed.
Thanks to its high purity (platinum 950) it is hypoallergenic and gentle on sensitive skin. Its higher density gives the ring a noticeably "fuller" feel on the hand, and the firm metal securely embraces the diamond — which is why platinum is a popular choice precisely for the solitaire, where a single diamond holds all the attention.
Platinum vs white gold
Both metals look similar at first glance — coolly white. The difference lies in how they achieve that white and how they behave over long-term wear. The main differences are summarised in the table below.
White gold gains its deeply white appearance from rhodium plating — a thin layer of rhodium that wears down over time and may show through with a warmer tone of the alloy at points of contact; we offer renewal as part of our service. Platinum has no such layer — it is white throughout, so it does not lose its shade and needs no rhodium plating. In exchange it is rarer and denser, which is reflected in a higher price.
Diamond and setting style
The coolly white, neutral tone of platinum is the ideal frame for a diamond — with diamonds from 0.30 ct we include an independent GIA, IGI or HRD certificate. It suits practically any cut, whether the diamond is natural or lab-grown. The strength of the metal is especially suited to the solitaire, where slender prongs can securely hold even a larger diamond; but a halo, three stones or delicate pavé along the shank also come through beautifully. If you are looking for a warmer tone or a lower budget, white, yellow or rose gold are alternatives.
Durability and care
How platinum ages and how to care for it
Platinum is among the most durable materials for an engagement ring, but it ages differently from gold — and it is good to know how. At the surface it is slightly softer, so everyday wear gradually gives it a subtle matte veil, a so-called patina. This is not wear of the metal: small scratches only displace the metal, none of it is lost. Many like the patina for its velvety, worn character; if you prefer a mirror lustre, we will re-polish the ring back to its original look at any time.
Unlike white gold, with platinum we do not renew any rhodium layer — white stays white the whole time. Care is therefore essentially just about an occasional cleaning and re-polishing. The density of the metal also means that the diamond's setting holds firmly and securely through years of wear.
With every ring we offer cleaning, re-polishing and a setting check, and with most designs also later resizing. With rings featuring full-band pavé or eternity, resizing is limited — we point this out in advance and recommend precise sizing right at the start.
