How to choose an engagement ring

An engagement ring is a lifelong decision — and that is exactly how we approach it. Before we start designing, we help you clarify three things: the style that will suit your partner, a diamond within your budget, and a metal that complements skin tone and the jewellery she or he wears every day.

A good place to start is to notice what they already wear. Small, delicate jewellery usually pairs with a subtle solitaire; a bolder taste can carry a halo or an oval in an east–west format. If you are unsure, we begin with a proven classic — the six-prong solitaire, which suits almost any hand and pairs easily with a wedding band.

When choosing, we then focus on four things. The budget mainly determines the size and quality of the diamond, not the metal. The setting style — solitaire, halo, three stones or pavé — reads differently on a slender or a fuller hand. The cut shape changes the ring's character: a round brilliant maximises brightness, an oval visually lengthens the fingers, and an emerald cut feels calm and elegant. And the size: if you want to keep the surprise, we find it out discreetly.

Metal: white, yellow and rose gold or platinum

The choice of metal ultimately comes down mainly to taste and skin tone — in terms of durability, every option holds up. White gold is the most versatile and beautifully sets off a colourless diamond. Yellow gold is a timeless classic and suits warmer skin tones. Rose gold looks romantic and modern thanks to its copper content. Platinum is the densest and most resistant, naturally white and hypoallergenic.

The wedding band and engagement ring don't have to match in metal, but they pair beautifully together. If you plan to wear both side by side, we take that into account already when designing the engagement ring, so that the profile and the height of the setting fit together.

Diamond engagement ring

The diamond is the heart of the ring. Its value and appearance are determined by the 4Cs — cut, colour, clarity and carat weight. In our experience, it pays off most not to economise on the cut: that is what gives a diamond its brightness and sparkle. With colour and clarity you can often step down a grade without the eye noticing, and put the difference towards size or the quality of the setting instead.

We offer two routes to a diamond. Natural diamonds formed over billions of years deep within the Earth and carry their own unique geological story. Lab-grown diamonds have identical physical and optical properties and, for the same budget, usually allow for a larger or cleaner diamond. We supply both options with a certificate for diamonds from 0.30 ct, and always describe them neutrally — we leave the decision to you.

Craft

Designed and crafted in our Czech goldsmith workshop

Every engagement ring is created entirely in our goldsmith workshop — from the first sketch to the final polish. We work in a Czech goldsmith workshop, where we have direct control over every step: we fine-tune the diamond setting, the shank profile and the surface finish so that the ring sits comfortably and withstands decades of wear.

We set the diamond by hand and go over every detail under the loupe before handover. Thanks to our own production, we can clean, re-polish or resize the ring at any later point.
