Character of the cut
Why choose a cushion
The cushion, named for its pillow-like cut, has a gently rounded square outline that looks romantic and slightly vintage. Its large, open facets return pronounced fire – bursts of colour that you will notice even in everyday light.
It suits those looking for a softer, less austere shape than the angular princess, yet with more sparkle than the calm emerald. It works with both classic and vintage rings, and thanks to its soft corners it is pleasant for everyday wear.
What to look for in a cushion
Colour and faceting style
The cushion is among the cuts that hold colour well – thanks to its pronounced fire it reveals a warmer tint less. With Color, a grade one step lower is therefore often enough without it being visible to the eye, especially in yellow or rose gold.
Pay greater attention to the faceting style. The cushion is made in two variants: "chunky", with larger, distinct facets and pronounced flashes, and "crushed ice", with finer, more sparkling reflections reminiscent of crushed ice. Both are beautiful, just differently – so it is worth comparing them in person. With Clarity, the lively play of light also helps to visually conceal smaller inclusions.
Setting and metal
The cushion suits a halo best
The cushion looks exceptional with a halo – a ring of smaller diamonds around the centre stone visually enlarges its surface and underlines the romantic character of the shape. It also looks beautiful in a pavé design or in a vintage setting with delicate details.
Because the cushion holds colour well, you have a free hand in your choice of metal. In white gold or platinum, purity and coolness come to the fore, while yellow and rose gold support a warmer, classic look. We are happy to discuss and design the specific execution to measure.
