Yellow Gold Engagement Rings
Yellow gold is the traditional choice that suits many couples and never goes out of style — it gives an engagement ring a warm, classic and timeless tone. It carries its colour right within the alloy, so it is not rhodium plated and holds its shade permanently.
The choice between 14k and 18k determines both the depth of tone and the durability — compared clearly below.

What to know about this selection
Why yellow gold for an engagement ring
Yellow gold is the traditional choice for engagement rings — its warm, sunny tone looks classic and timeless and pairs nicely with warmer skin tones. Where cool metals underline a diamond's sparkle, yellow gold lends the ring a warmth and character that never goes out of style.
A key practical advantage: the colour of yellow gold comes from the alloy itself, not from a surface treatment. Unlike white gold, it is therefore not rhodium plated and holds its shade permanently — all it needs is an occasional re-polish, which we offer as part of our service.
14k vs 18k yellow gold
We work with both purity grades routinely, and the choice is mainly about the desired depth of tone, how the ring is worn and the budget. With yellow gold a simple rule applies: the more gold, the deeper and warmer the shade — but the slightly softer the surface.
Because yellow gold carries its colour in the alloy, it does not need rhodium plating the way white gold does, and it never loses its shade. Frequent wear may give it a subtle patina and fine hairline marks — natural for gold. We offer re-polishing back to its original lustre as part of our service, so the ring can be returned to a fresh look again and again.
Yellow gold and diamond colour
The warm tone of yellow gold has one pleasant quality: it pairs beautifully with diamonds from the near-colourless group, namely G–J. The surrounding warm metal softens the hint of the diamond's own warmth, so a marginally lower colour grade is not noticeable to the eye. You can thus deliberately choose a colour one grade lower and put the budget difference instead toward the cut or the size of the diamond, where the difference is visible at first glance.
With diamonds from 0.30 ct we include an independent GIA, IGI or HRD certificate — for both natural and lab-grown diamonds. Brilliant (round), oval and emerald cuts suit yellow gold, and the diamonds can be set individually, as delicate pavé along the shank, or as an eternity with diamonds all around the band. If you are considering a cooler frame for a markedly colourless diamond, white gold or platinum are alternatives.
