Character of the shape
Why the round brilliant
The round brilliant (designated by the code RB on GIA certificates) is the most popular and most versatile diamond shape. Its 57 to 58 facets are calculated to return as much light as possible — the result is maximum brilliance and fire that you will not find in other shapes.
Thanks to its perfectly symmetrical outline, the round brilliant suits practically every hand and every style. It is therefore an excellent choice if you are looking for an engagement ring that never goes out of fashion and remains beautiful for decades to come.
The 4Cs of the round brilliant
What matters most in a round brilliant
With a round brilliant, the quality of the Cut is what matters most. It determines just how intensely the diamond will sparkle — so for this shape we recommend not economising and reaching for the highest cut grades.
At the same time, the round brilliant masks slight tints and tiny inclusions better than any other shape. With Color and Clarity, a grade one step lower is often enough without the eye noticing, and you can put the money you save into a top-tier cut. Bear in mind, however, that the round brilliant has the highest price per carat of all shapes.
Setting and metal
Which setting suits the round brilliant
The round brilliant works with any setting. A classic solitaire highlights its clean symmetry, a halo of smaller diamonds visually enlarges the centre, pavé brings the whole band to life, and a three-stone setting gives the ring a story of past, present and future.
With the metal, it depends on the diamond's tone: white gold and platinum emphasise icy-white tones, while yellow and rose gold gently warm up warmer shades. We are happy to fine-tune the specific combination according to your diamond and your wishes.
