Lab-grown purple and violet diamonds achieve their colour through post-growth treatment — irradiation followed by annealing creates nitrogen-vacancy centres and associated lattice defects whose collective absorption produces purple to violet-pink bodycolours. This process is permanent and disclosed on grading reports. Purple lab-grown diamonds are among the less common fancy colour options; the precise hue modifier on the GIA report and the intensity grade are the two most important buying considerations.
