Lab-Grown Green Diamonds

Lab-grown green diamonds get their colour from post-growth irradiation, which displaces carbon atoms in the lattice to create GR1 vacancy centres — the same defects responsible for green in naturally irradiated diamonds, produced here under controlled laboratory conditions rather than over geological timescales. Annealing after irradiation can shift the hue toward yellow-green by forming H3 centres at 503 nm. Both processes are permanent and disclosed on grading reports; intensity grade is the primary value signal.
