Lab-grown black diamonds are produced by treating a finished laboratory-grown stone — high-pressure high-temperature or irradiation-driven graphitisation that fills the crystal with dark inclusions until it reads as a uniform, opaque black. The process is permanent and disclosed on the grading report, and it yields a dense, even black at a low price per carat that suits bold statement settings and sharp contrast against white metal or pavé. Uniformity of colour and a bright, mirror-like polish are the main quality signals, since black diamonds are opaque and finish to a lustrous surface.
