Natural Cushion Diamonds

The cushion cut is a modified brilliant with a rounded, pillow-like outline offered in two optically distinct types: cushion brilliant, with large facets producing bold chunky flashes, and cushion modified brilliant, with an extra pavilion row that creates fine 'crushed ice' scintillation — the GIA report specifies which. Its broader pavilion facets create longer light paths through the stone, retaining body colour more than a round brilliant's geometry does, so stepping up one colour grade compared to a round is advisable; SI1 is frequently eye-clean in either type.
