Lab-grown lyserøde diamanter opnår deres farve gennem behandling efter vækst: bestråling skaber gittervakancer, der ved kontrolleret annealing parrer sig med nitrogenatomer og danner nitrogen-vakance-centre (N-V), hvis absorption frembringer en lyserød til violetlyserød egenfarve. Denne totrinsproces er permanent og skal oplyses på enhver graderingsrapport. Intensitetsgraden er den afgørende værdiforskel — Fancy Vivid lyserød forbliver den mest eftertragtede og sjældne betegnelse selv i lab-grown-produktion.
